last night the vet called to let me know the colt is doing good. they have him on a feeding tube and IV fluids. he does have some diareha so they are treating him for that also.
for those that are confused about this little guy, he was born 5 weeks early out of a recip mare that had no clue what was happening. her milk bag was really tight and was hard to express any milk out of her and her teats were like 'smashed hershy kisses' and it was hard for the colt to latch on, plus the mare would walk around and not let the colt nurse.
i am going to the clinic in about an hour with some other mares to have palpated and i will get another update on the colt.

yesterday he was doing good. they have him on just a feeding tube and they took xrays of his knees and hocks. since he was so early, his bones are not fully developed so they put casts on all 4 legs to help support him. the vet called me this morning and said he was doing really good, but he is having a hard time trying to figure out how to get up and down since he has casts on his legs but the vet said he was working with him on figuring that part out and that he will be able to come home tomorrow.
so please keep those good vibes coming.

he came home today. he has casts on all 4 legs but he is getting around as good as he can. he does need help getting up so he can nurse and he has been staying up on his legs for a good 45 mins or so then he lays down again. when he is ready to get up he kinda scoots around in the stall, thats when i have to go out and help him up. he got weighed at the clinic and he weighs 86 lbs, so he has come along way. he can get pretty spunky after he nurses!!!
i just want to Thank Everyone for all the prayers, and good thoughts for this little guy.
thanks for all those extras eyes!

thanks for the prayers, thoughts, and all the extra eyes!
7 maart schreef:well this little guy is something else. such a little fighter he is. everyday he is getting stronger and stronger. if ya's get to watch this guy on the cam he is hilarous to watch. when he wants to get up he scoots around the stall and when he hears me come in the barn he knickers at me! he has been trying really hard to get up on his own and he helps me when i pick him up. once he is up he goes straight to the milk bar!! then he will run around the stall. those casts are not hindering him in anyway. the vet wants to see him next friday and will probably cut his casts off. i sure hope so cuz he is getting heavier to lift up! LOL
