We use a sew in monitor on our mares. You will occasionally see this and you may mistake it for a sac. It is not a sac, but a magnet sewn to the vulva of the mare. When the foal starts to emerge it separates the magnets and an alarm goes off to indicate that the foal is arriving.

So, the next time you think you see a sac, please take a few minutes to make sure it really is before you call. While we appreciate your calls and vigilance, we also need our sleep.
