Weer een gezond veulentje op de wereld gezet.
Een verslag van de eigenaar:
Whew that was a little nerve wracking. I was on MSN with Melissa and Deidre off and on all night watching Shandy. When she started pushing we ran....when we got there she just laid there and rolled - big alarm for me!!! But we let her do her own thing. She isn't much of a pusher and the fit was extremely tight. This was her first and I certainly hope things are broke in well now because that was TIGHT.
Shannon had felt that the sack was torn and expected the foal to be dead - but I told her to give it time....and when she FINALLY got the foal out he was wide awake and ready to go.
Shandy is exhausted and the colt is doing well, but hasn't fully got the idea of nursing yet. He did latch on once so he knows where it is and we syringed colostrum into him so we know his gut should be sealed. We'll monitor them through the night. The colt has pooped FIVE TIMES. I think that's why Shandy decided he needed to get out.....she knew what was coming!
Thanks everyone for watching - our foaling season is done!!! Thank God for all we have and that I can sleep in my bed again!
Happy Birthday Mulligan's Run Buckin' Khaki - He'll be called Khaki after my nephew Cacky (same pronunciation). He loves Shandy and we've wanted to use that name for awhile.
Good night........
