Update Frosty: I know you're all waiting on a late-night report, so I better be accurate, right?!? You'd think we'd know exactly what to look for with a sweet mare like Frosty who has given us five gorgeous foals and we've seen every one be born. But they say each one is a bit different, and she is quieter this time around. Following my own advice, then, I guess I'd have to say not tonight. She holds very still and rarely lays down the past 24 hours. Her past practice has been pacing, lots of pacing around the stall, for at least an hour before hard labor. That's why it was so predictable, noticeable and nice to be there, you had some warning. There is lots of wax, but it still seems a bit sticky to me and so we could be talking tomorrow night. Sunday of course we are having a B day party for everyone in the family that has birthdays around this time of year (almost everyone). Now wouldn’t that be a present! I doubt she will wait that long, but you never know.
Update Sweet Pea: WELL, I'M AT A LOSS TO DESCRIBE OR UNDERSTAND WHAT SWEET PEA IS UP TO. HER BAG IS NOT READY!! BUT SHE IS VERY SOFT IN THE REAR AND HER BEHAVIOR IS NOT AT ALL TYPICAL OF HER. SHE ATE SUPPER BUT HAS BEEN LAYING AROUND OFF AND ON SINCE THEN. NOT ACTING COLICKY OR ANYTHING JUST LAYING DOWN. SHE DOES NOT EVEN RISE TO HER FEET WHEN YOU ENTER HER STALL---NOT AT ALL LIKE HER!! SHE IS NIPPING AT HER SIDES SOME AND LOOKING BACK AS I AM WATCHING HER ON CAMERA. MAYBE THE BABY IS IN A POSITION TO MAKE HER UNCOMFORTABLE OR SHE MAY BE MOVING TOWARD LABOR. (IT'S LIKE WATERING PLANTS--IF THEY DIE YOU EITHER WATERED TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE) MEGAN'S BAG FEELS MUCH MORE RIPE THAN SWEET PEA'S.
THEY'RE BAGS ARE BOTH AT ORANGE SIZE OR BETTER BUT STILL KIND OF FLAT ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE ON BOTH MARES. I SURE WOULD LOVE A MILK STRIP TEST TO KIND OF LET ME KNOW WHAT THESE GIRLS ARE DOING.
I WILL BE ON HIGH ALERT TONIGHT ALTHOUGH I DON'T FEEL JUSTIFIED IN TELLING EVERYONE ELSE TO BE. I WILL TRY TO POST ANY CHANGES UNLESS WE GET IN A FOALING FRENZY.
I'm actually in the middle of switching my site to a new host with a different webcam setup than Yahoo. May not have it done before Splash foals. I will try to at least get that back working in the meantime.
I'm watching her now and I do believe I see a cow pie in the stall! Better go check her!
Ooops, am I bad! Was just a big pee spot in the area where she usually poops! Silly mare!
Update Grace: Grace is really looking pretty ready. Milk is still changing , not completely white yet. Hip very dropped off. Someone reminded me that she didnt do a lot of pacing with Diana so we will have to watch her close. She is not real interested in her food today either.
Update Honey: She is bagging up nicely. Her left side is much bigger, her nipples hard to see as it forms all around them. She is flinchy, and baby is not bouncy , more rolling in her now. Too big to move around a lot. She also has not gotten any bigger. Her croup is starting to stoften. Honey is CRABBY when she is in her stall with the other horses. That is definitely HER space and she flattens her ears at all horses when they walk by. I'm not sure she'll be good with other people in the barn with her baby.
Update Eclips: Well, we put Miss Clips out for a bit this afternoon. I looked out and saw her looking quite miserable so we let her come back in. Once she came in, she stood in the middle of her stall looking miserable until feed time. Maybe it was all that standing last night without any downtime. Her belly looks like a big V this evening. So we watch, wait & see!
btw... Betty, you should wash your mouth out with soup for suggesting she could go 352!!! Boy! Wouldn't that really drag things out!!!
