Citaat:I was actually just about to come in and give you guys an update about how close Di was looking and testing when she went into labor. Thank you so much everyone for the prayers and well wishes, unfortunately the filly did not make it . I had started wondering if something was wrong when she wasn't coming out too quickly, I got her front half out with some light pulling with contractions and ripped open the sac as soon as her shoulders were clear but then when Di stood up I saw I also had a back hoof trying to come out also. I was unable to push it back in after trying for awhile. It was the vet I was on the phone with during the foaling, who advised just trying to pull the foal as is since I could not get the hind leg back. This ended up working fairly quickly but the 10 min it took from the time I saw the back hoof to getting the foal out felt like an eternity. I tried mouth-mouth, compressions, rubbing the filly, swinging her upside down and a couple other things for over 30 minutes but nothing got her to come around. I'm not sure if something happened while she was stuck or if she was already gone prior to that and maybe that explains why she didn't have the one back leg into position as I never did see any signs of life from the filly. It ended up being a solid dark grey ( just like Mom) filly with a gorgeous little head that was all legs and really refined . Thank you so much everyone for watching and keeping an eye on my mares, I truly appreciate it more than I can explain as we all know how things can go wrong even when we are there so knowing that there is extra eyes checking in on my girls allows me to not go completely insane during foaling season. I too am glad she waited for me to come home, I got back around 3 am last night. I'll turn her camera back around in a bit, I'm sorry to everyone for turning it around during foaling. I try to leave them on as much as I can for everything and foaling but when they get really stuck or something like today where the foal looks like it may not make it I like turning them off.
Di appears to be doing ok, I had left the filly in with her for a while in hopes she was able to realize she was gone but she is still calling for her every time you walk by or through the barn.. definitely heart breaking to listen to. Di is a little off in her hind end, just walking a bit funny and is twitching a bit. I asked the vet about it and he said she likely just pinched a nerve with the way the foal came out so got some banamine and am just keeping an eye on her.
As for the other girls, who now my foaling season paranoia has definitely kicked in after today (especially with Maddie's minor dystocia last year):
Maddie (bottom left) is currently really loose in the hind end and her tail. I am still unable to get enough out of her to test but was able to get a drop out and it is a cloudy whitish color and very sticky. Her belly appeared to drop yesterday when I got a sneak peak on the camera quickly. She also seems a little more uncomfortable that usual today.
Socks (bottom right) is a bit soft in the hind end her bag isn't too tight yet but I don't recall it getting overly tight before foaling ever. She isn't testing ready yet but the milk is a cloudy clearish/white in color and moderately sticky. She normally doesn't give a whole lot of signs before foaling though.
Thank you again everyone for the prayers and well wishes. I'm pretty upset about the filly but am glad that I was able to get her out and that Di appears to be doing okay at this time.
