IIIIIIIITTTT'S A BLACK GIRL!!!!!
Well, did that one get everyone's attention!!!! I had no sooner cleaned her stall, updated the message board, went back to the monitor and saw that X-Phile was down and pushing. The bubble was NOT white but red so was headed out to the barn when the phone rang with someone telling me I was having a red bag delivery. All I could say was I know and I'm headed there NOW! Sorry if I sounded rude I just wanted out there as quickly as possible.
All is well and the baby is fine. It was red bag but the feet and nose were right there where I could feel them and I just reached in for the head and started pulling. The bag was coming apart and the baby was making it fine so I just kept pulling until it cleared the mother. She is beautiful and so very very black even though she is wet. The placenta is all out as it was preceeding the baby and the rest came with the baby. I wanted her to break the cord but there was no way as it was just too much and too heavy so we did cut it. Mom is doing fine too. We are waiting for her to nurse now to make sure everything is okay.
I was just reading all you all were writing and could hear the anxiousness in your e-mails. I was anxious too but so happy she had it tonight .....and I get to play with her this weekend. God was watching over all of us in that stal tonight for sure.
So much for the "high alert"...and "low alert"...There was just NO time.
More info tomorrow and thanks again for watching and thanks to the person in Pound, Va that called. The barn is very close to the house but I sure hope I didn't sound rude...I was just in a big hurry to get to the barn.
b][Okay here's what is going on with X-Phile and her new little girl. As most of you know it was a red bag delivery but it went well. The foal is a little weak but I feel she is going to be fine. This mother is working with her foal so well and trying to assist her to stand and nurse. Her legs are very wobbly but we can see they are getting stronger. It's almost like she was taking a long nap and was awaken about 2 weeks too soon. She is a little premmie foal but once she gets the hang of things I think she will do very well. She is beginning to stand a little better and yes she sort of looks like a frog when she walks and trys to stand but that will change when she gets strength in her legs. We have milked the mother several times and gotten the colostrum in that tiny new tummy. Little one does not quite know how to suck so I've been working with her trying to get her to suck on my finger, a very small nipple and she just holds it in her mouth. I have a small nipple on the end of a syringe we are using but I want to keep putting her under the mother as well so she can get a taste of her and how her teats feel and smell. Thank goodness this is X-Phile. A lot of jennets would not let you do this sort of thing but X-Phile will stand so still and is very loving and patient. I will go back out in about an hour but I want to observe them and see what they accomplish by themselves.
We are watching from the bedroom and can see their every little move.
Thanks for watching and you will be very surprised what a gorgeous foal this will be when she gets some strength and a nice belly full of warm milk.
More info a little later on. It is now/ 2:10 a.m. so I'll go back out about 3:30 to give her more milk. Maybe she will have figured out the nursing trick by that time. Let's all pray she does.
