well i just got off the phone with the vet..he is gonna come out sometime this evening.he will check her over to see if anything is not right.he seems to be concerned about the milk let down and the fact she had some bloody mucous last nite also the fact that she has continued to progress but yet no foal..so i am finally off to bed until he gets here my son is home and the love of my life will be home shortly to take over until i get up..so i need everyone to just hold tight and send some prayers...some vets are very adamant about being taped ,filmed,or videoed because of liability reasons ,he has not said anything yet about the camera but if he does want it shut down i will have to comply and will get it back up as soon as possible..i just do not want anyone freaking out or calling ..i will post the latest after he has finished examining her..he did say that if she needed to go for a c-section it would be at the university of florida and that is a very risky procedure and it the last thing we would want.drafts do not do well under anesthesia..so until then i will go for now....

I have to tell you I'm just plain exhausted so this will be brief. We did have a problem with Nicki in that the foal had both front feet back instead of in the diving position. In short, Kirsten our vet, decided we'd best induce labor and she would reposition the foal. It was not an easy task and Nicki either was too tired from the long labor or simply was resisting the pain she was in, but we ended up pulling this foal. The foal is fine as you can see, and a bouncing baby girl. Nicki however, associates the foal with the pain and so far has been very resentful of it. We have had to twitch her to allow the foal to nurse. We are hoping once the pain subsides she will accept the foal. So far though, we are just taking it one feeding at a time. If worse comes to worse, we may need to put the foal on another mare. That's all for now.

In het kort: veulen had voorvoetjes niet naar voren gestoken maar naar achter, dierenarts heeft geboorte opgewekt en ze hebben het veulen er uit moeten trekken. Veulen is kerngezond, merrie ziet het veulen als degene die al die pijn heeft veroorzaakt, en stoot het af. Merrie krijgt de praam op zodat het veulen kan drinken. Ze bekijken het per voeding en er is een kans dat het veulen bij een andere merrie moet worden gezet.
