Update Baby: I was cleaning up today and found a calendar from last year and low and behold there was a breeding date for Baby She was bred 1 time in May From her breeding in May she is at 336 days today. I feel much better that I found that date. Now for how Baby is doing, Baby has stayed away from the horses for most of the day, she did not eat all her dinner and she has been pinning her ears, biting at her sides and kicking her belly tonight. Maybe we are getting closer to seeing her foal I am keeping a very close eye on her as she makes rapid changes Thanks for watching with us.
~~~~~~~~~~ And again... Herinnert iemand nog Carla met 3 verschillende uitgerekende datums? Maart werd juni...
Update Dinah: Dinah Has A Surprise Colt!
I missed it too!!!!!!!! I moved the mares to have the ones I thought would foal on a closer camera. Dinah had only loose skin and no milk bag, was still firm behind and I felt like she was not close to foaling so I moved her over beside Sabrina. I can flip through the cameras as needed but my faithful cam watchers can't so I wanted to be sure the right mare was under camera. HA HA HA
The beeper didn't go off. I was fooling with the computer and went to lay down about 11:30 or I scanned through the cameras with the remote and saw something in the corner of Dinah's stall. I thought first the cat, then I thought Sabrina's colt had somehow got under the stall wall and was in with Dinah. It finally hit me that she had foaled and I tore to the barn like a crazy woman calling Priscilla on the cell phone as I drove the golf cart.
I found a frantic red pinto colt banging into the corner of the stall and a hysterical maiden mom trying to figure out what in the world he was. Neither of them seemed drawn to each other for the first hour.
They are relating a little bit now. We expressed a drop or two from her nipple but there is just no bag there yet. Her nipples are tucked in. If he could find them and nurse it would help to stimulate her letting the milk down. She spins away from him when he tries to find the milk bar. This is gonna be a loooong night!!
I don't know if we will ever get an alert out so everyone will know what is happening. These maidens are going to drive me nuts!!
He is really cute and very strong.
stay tuned for the next chapter of Looney Tunes.
Oeps, deze update was van eerder vanavond (hun tijd) en dat is nu wel grappig...
Update Dinah, Curly Sue, Brightside & Star: Well, I checked Curly Sue and her bag is not quite ready, her rump is not real soft but she looked up at me with those big brown cow eyes and said "Carolyn I may decide to have this foal tonight." I told her to wait while I did her hair and redecorated her room and she said ok. She is partially body clipped, sporting a new hair do and has a new room with a view (of her that is) Dinah is now next to Sabrina and the new colt.
Eliazar says Dinah will foal first but I don't agree. We will see. He is usually right.
The new colt is great and I sent some photos to Roger to put on the site. They are not great but now my camera battery went dead. I must not be supposed to take photos of this colt!!
Brightside was checked by the vet today and he says she should for without problems. I sure hope he is right.
Star has fluid in her bag but not enough to test yet. I think she may foal by the weekend.
Update Susan: TONIGHT CHECKING SUSAN WITH THE FOALING STRIPS WE HARDLY HAD TWO SQUARES. HER BAG WAS HUGE THIS MORNING AND SHE HAS BEEN ROLLING AND NIPPING THOSE SIDES.
CAN"T BELIEVE SHE HAS ALREADY LAYED DOWN, BUT BACK UP. I AM SURE SHE WILL BE TAKING UP HER STANDING POSITION FAIRLY SOON. I THINK THE FOAL PROBABLY HAS NOT DROPPED ENOUGH TO FOAL YET. I DON'T SEE THE FOAL MOVING MUCH.
I THOUGHT SHE WOULD HAVE JUMPED TO THREE OR FOUR SQUARES SO I WAS REALLY SURPRISED WHEN IT WENT TO TWO VERY SLOW.'
LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A FEW MORE DAYS. mad.gif
I HAVE NOW GOT OUR "HIGH ALERT" WERE IT WILL WORK. THE LOW ALERT WOULD WORK BUT THE HIGH ALERT DID NOT GO OUT WHEN FANCY FOALED. BUT WE ARE READY FOR SUSAN.
WE JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW THINGS GO.........
Lucy, Eleanor & Lexie: Lucy has been down a lot today, but not restless like she was last year.
Eleanor, murky to amber wax but looking pretty miserable.
Lexie.. not done baking if you go by the bag.
Update Lacy: Lacey passed her afterbirth, the filly has stood up on her own and walked around so everything looks great. I let nature take its course now and filly can get up to nurse on her own when she is ready and able. I watch though to make sure she nurses within a reasonable time and passes her poop. It usually takes a few hours for all to happen. Rest assured all will be fine. Thank you for watching.
