Die kunnen best tegen een stootje hoor. Ze vallen immers ook weer om als ze eenmaal staan.

Ben wel benieuwd waarom ze dat doen, net zoals het overeind zetten, waarom niet wachten tot het veulen het zelf doet??

Heb trouwens verder geen verstand van paardenbevallingen hoor

dus ik heb geen idee wat "normaal" is.

Waarschijnlijk omdat ze dan sneller kunnen drinken en wat voedingsstoffen binnen krijgen.

Als het veulen drinkt stimuleert dat toch ook de baarmoeder, zodat de nageboorte ook sneller afkomt?

Vindt dat ze het eigenlijk juist goed doet veulen moet zelf ook wat doen toch!?

Yay, we are so excited to be back on mare stare for another year!

This year Code 3 Quarter Horses will only have one pregnant mare on camera, but a very special one at that! The mare on Cam 2, Doc Lil Confusion AKA Piglet is a recipient mare extraordinaire. She is owned by Shelly Drake a very close friend to the entire Code 3 Family, in fact she is “Code3Shelly”. 2009 was a crazy year for us, it also included a wedding, and that’s how to mares named Piglet and Blue became “something borrowed and something blue”.

Shelly has graciously loaned us both of her mares to try and carry embryos from our mare Allie. Those of you that were on last year might remember Allie and her foal Kallie. (Who are both doing fantastic!)

Allie has had some fertility problems, and problems carrying to term. Kallie is the only pregnancy, of three that has made it to term. Allie holds the keys to my mom’s heart, and my mom was absolutely devestated that Allie could not carry the foals my mom yearned for.

Starting last March we began the mad scientist as we call it, process of embryo transfers. The first attempt did not take, however we were ecstatic when the second did! Allie was bred to the stallion Macs Good n Plenty on April 13th 2009, on April 20th 2009, the embryo that she conceived was flushed, and then implanted into piglet.

As I write this Piglet is fast approaching her 320 day mark on February 27th 2010. We have her 340 day due date as March 19th 2010.

Allie is an extremely proven show mare, whose show career ended do to an unfortunate trail accident when we did not own her. You can read more on Allies history and how she came to be at Code 3 Quarter Horses on Allies thread from 2009. Located on our Farm Board.

Allie has over 300 AQHA points. She has a Halter Register of Merit and Open, Amateur and Youth Performance Registers of Merit. She has won 25 Halter Grand Championships and 13 Reserves. She has won 12 All Around titles and 11 Reserve. She was 7th at the AQHA World Show in Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation. She has qualified for the world show in Halter and Showmanship as well. She has won countless circuit and high point awards.

Although Piglet does not have any genetic influence on this baby, we felt it important you also have some background information on her. Piglet is not just a recip mare to us, she is a member of the family and a great gift.
Piglet was born on May 5th 2001, she was a huge baby! Shelly said every time she went to see her she was either nursing or eating right alongside her mom. She started to call her Lil Piglet and the name Piglet just stuck, not to mention she was almost pink in color!

As a three year old Piglet was leased and bred to a Paint, she had a paint foal. Unfortunately that baby had to be put down at 10 days old to a suspected spinal cord injury in pasture. Shelly came the next day to pick up Piglet and put her right back to work.Shelly says Piglet has never liked going slow even though she is a HUGE mare, Shelly started her on barrels which they both love. Piglet is an extremely athletic mare. She has never been shown but has miles of trail rides on her and lots of schooling. She has a big heart and loves attention. Piglet loves her turn out times and is always ready to put on a good show.Her athleticism is amazing to watch.

Shelly initially bred Piglet to re-sell but could not part with her. Piglet will have a forever home with Shelly!
