Megan update:
Jillian made it home and has already given Crue a big kiss and played with the new baby Cameo. Pinch me...I can't believe how Crue is being such a perfect doll of a mother! When I put the feed in her box, if the baby is nursing, she will actually wait till the baby is done to walk over to the box to eat?!! This is NOT the OLD chow hound Crue I knew! Remarkable how pregnancy changes some of these mares...and sometimes how the ones you think are going to be so easy are not and the ones you KNOW are going to be horrible are perfect angels! I must say, I could not ask for a better mom than our Crue.
As far as Meg goes...just the tiniest bit of wax tonight. She is due the 6th at the estimated 342 days. HOWEVER...last year she went at 346 days gestation. I'm not taking chances of course so I'll be up watching. She did plenty of butt pushes and tail rubs last night...some pacing too but all of that could be just the discomfort and the increasing pressure. She does look a bit elongated in the vulva and she is spongy in the back end. Her colostrum was a lot thicker and stickier tonight. It "could" be tonight but if not tonight I don't think we are too many days off. Libby developed a big bag a couple of weeks ago...but then it regressed. She's starting to make a bag again now. She is due the 17th. Abby- the 21st and Lady the 24th. Really, any of them could logically go anytime so I do watch them much closer now and every morning and every night includes a bag check. Meg is not a maiden. Libby is. Lady and Abby are not. I worry more about the maiden's as I have no track record to go by and if there is a foal rejection problem at all..it usually comes with a maiden. These next couple of weeks are going to prove exhausting. Thank goodness Jillian is here this weekend to help out but unfortunately, she's off to a collegiate softball tournament in Fla. for a week towards mid month- right in the thick of things. She's a big help when she is here and tomorrow we are going to try to get registration photos of the foals. Well....off to watch my Meg on the much more comfortable couch!
