Hello Everyone, When I went to the barn to get the fluid for Kat's milk strip test last night there was blood in the fluid on one side. I immediately took her temperature, which was normal, and called the vet. He came this morning to check her and really does not know why the blood is there. Her temperature was still normal and she does not seem to be sore. He took some of the fluid and sent it to the lab to have it cultured just to be sure there is no infection. His best guess is that she may have bruised her udder causing some small blood vessels to break. Since he already had the fluid and didn't need it all for the culture, I went ahead and tested it this morning with the strips. She was testing 3.5 squares. I'm not going to try to test her tonight, but just give everything time to get back to normal. The vet says that he doesn't foresee a problem with the baby should she foal soon. I do have frozen colostrum if I should need it.
Many of you have emailed or called me about the fact that you are not able to connect to the streaming cams during times when we have a mare we think is close to foaling or during the actual birth. I have decided to put the refreshing cam back on when we have one mare that is close. I will not be able to run both streaming cams at the same time that I have the refreshing cam online. Streaming Cam 1 will be on at all times. By doing this, even if you are not able to see the streaming, you can see the refreshing cam and then watch the replay in streaming if you like. There is a link to the pop up refreshing cam on the barn cam page.

HI everyone, Bear's muscles on each side of her tail have slackened off more, her udder is full as well as her teats, under her tail is relaxed,loose and jiggles when she walks. These are all good signs of getting close but not specific enough to give you all a time frame. If she waxes or drips milk I can give you a little bit of advance warning. Basically were just waiting on the baby to decide when it is time. How long will this take? I have no idea at this point, only nature knows. She could foal soon or wait until closer to her due date. If I did know I sure would be getting more sleep..lol. I am anxcious to see Bear with her foal and hope it won't be much longer.
If anyone misses the birth we are going to try and have a replay of the birth. It won't be immediately after the birth because there are too many things to do then but we will announce the day and time of replay on the MB. The replay we give is good to see because you may see more of the birth then what you had seen due to less traffic on the site during replay. We will show the replay at different times so that if anyone misses it they can have a chance to see the birth.
