Ella update for PM 1/25/9...

Keep dancing- It appears to be working!!!! Ella has barely touched her hay since about 3:00pm today. She is subdued, calm and quiet. She is waxed, and is now not producing very much manure at all.

Her PH tests below 7, her calcium is WAY above 300 so all signs are a go. We have straw on standby at the stall door, vet is on standby with computer at her bedside, tail is newly washed and wrapped, udder is washed, and we are fully expecting a foal to arrive sometime tonight.

Of course, we did expect a foal 48 hours ago, too. For stat lovers out there- she is at 347 days gestation today.

For those of you who enjoy keeping track, we are going to begin posting a daily blog on the Fields Quarter Horse message board which will contain a brief synopsis of the events of the day. That may make it easier to keep up with the great mares and foals you will be watching- both before and after deliveries!

Ok! Sprite is officially on the close watch! She had a lot of wax about 5pm feeding time (which mom knocked off) and then at about 7pm had a lot more. She got a milk test done and it was a FAST 5 which means foaling soon!!! She did not have a milk test yesterday, so not sure what she would have tested then. Last year she foaled about 28 hours after her first fast 5 test...since she was not tested last night, we dont know what she would have tested, so could be tonight, could be tomorrow night. I do expect her to foal in the early morning hours, as that is her usual pattern. Sooooo, looks like a foal could be here soon!!! Lets hope for a healthy mare and foal, fillies are always nice, but we arent picky, just want healthy for both!

Update for tonight, not really any change with Sprite, she is still the same. She is down for a rest now, we are kind of hoping she will hold out a little longer, she is at 307 days today.

Maar wat gebeurd er nu de hele tijd:
Ik hoor een raar geroffel, ga me eerst 15 minuten irriteren aan het feit dat de buren weer met de klopboor bezig zijn, realiseer me dan dat het paardenvoetjes van het Barn Alarm is, ren naar beneden en mis een bevalling....

Of kom er zoals vandaag weer achter dat het vals alarm is.

En dan niet 1 keer maar het is al 3 keer gebeurd, dat ik mezelf vergis.
