[Barncam] Still going strong

It may still be tonight...but we have never seen a mare so *ready* at 10:30 and so unconcerned at 12:30! Definite contractions, some straining, even audibles to go along with the ebb and flow - Bill and I were sitting outside her door, all set with everything we need. Then she got up like "Ok, boy, glad that's over" and began to eat her hay she had not touched from dinner! We got a bunch of phone calls from viewers who wanted to make sure we were in the barn, many who thought they saw a bubble. With Roxy, though, she has very light mottled skin under her tail and it can look like a sac. Her tailhead is pronounced, she is off her feed, and she had this serious bout of contractions for about 90 minutes - but her water did not break and she is not in any undue distress, so we continue to wait. I wrapped her tail and honestly thought her water was going to break right in my face! And she didn't even get up when I was doing that - she's very laid back and gentle, but come on! I would have bet money we'd have a baby by midnight. So much for my opinion.
By the way, her tail wrap may slip off. I did not have enough vet wrap handy, our helpers must be using a lot on Lucy when they re-wrap her legs at night, so I used a purple polo wrap instead. Pretty, but too slippery. "No problem", I thought - it's only going to be on for an hour or so! Hoo hah. Thanks for your company, Buddies - I will be awake all night tonight, and hope Roxy foals a happy, healthy little one soon to put me out of my sleep-deprived misery!!
