* "PIN UP" ~ UPDATE!
Tuesday, April 1, 9:35pm PST *
NOW ON CAM!!!...Our "Wrecked Mazzarati"...as we lovingly refer to our darling mare "Playgirls Pin Up" (aka "Pin Up").
Pin Up is an incredible Quarter Horse mare that came to us as an absolute and complete wreck! We did not realize when we purchased her and had her shipped to us that we were really RESCUING this mare! She was in her early years (she's still young!) a champion, winning all over California and was a favorite to win at the QH World Show.
She sadly suffered a leg accident and braved several surgeries that left her with an unsightly scar on her right hock joint. The surgeries most definitely saved her life. But, of course, her show career came to a screeching halt. After being retired from the show ring, she lived on in a couple of great homes and had a couple of fabulous babies.
She was then sold into a home that her owner thought was a good and forever home where she'd be well cared for. But sadly she was fooled by a very unscrupulous woman! This unscrupulous woman was the lady I got her from. As soon as she got her for a 'give away' price, she turned right around and put her on the internet 'for sale' for a little more than the price she'd gotten her for. All she was after in owning this wonderful mare was to make a buck or two.
I just happened along and stumbled across Pin Up at the right time! I wasted no time in finalizing the sale as I could tell (even with the ugly scar and poor condition) this was a GRAND MARE!
We had Pin Up shipped to us a few weeks later basically sight-unseen other than a few poor photos. The hauling papers that were sent with her were not even for this horse. The seller had put together papers for different horses, trying to pretend that these were for her. This was even after I had set up payment with a vet in her area to have all the vet work done for her hauling papers. I was lied to and lied to and lied to by the seller. One excuse after another about why she couldn't make the vet appointments.
When Pin Up stepped off the trailer here after her trip up from California, I about broke down and cried. She was skin and bones. Skin and bones! Far beyond what I'd seen in the pictures! And this was after the seller had bragged to me about what an easy keeper she was. A couple of weeks went by and her registration papers never showed up and my phone calls and emails to the seller were being ignored.
Come to find out, the seller had not even paid her previous owner for her, yet. This unscrupulous woman had taken a horse that she didn't even own yet and put it up for sale and sold it and shipped it! And, then, of course, had starved her during all this time.
LUCKILY for me, the previous owner and I (come to find out!) had mutual friends and we were able to work everything out in Pin Up's best interest. We got her papers and Pin Up got a permanent, caring and loving home here with us at Woodstock! Yea!
Some weeks later, it was brought to my attention that the seller we'd gotten her from had been arrested for cruelty to animals and had all her animals taken away.
Crazy story!!!...but an amazing mare! We call her our "Wrecked Mazzarati", because we could not have afforded Pin Up right off the 'show room floor'...but we could afford her as a 'rebuild'.
She'll never be 100% like she used to be, because of her leg conformation. We, also, keep her a little more in an athlete-weight than big-fat-halter-horse-weight, so as to further protect her leg from stress. But all things considered, she's happy and healthy, has a bit of a limp...but gets around great.
On that note...Please rejoice in our Pin Up's renewed life and the life she is about to bring into the world for us! She is in foal to our World Champion Producing Stallion "Woodstock Sunny McZip". She is due April 25th...but has been known to foal early.
We will be watching her very closely! Please, spread the word to your friends about this grand mare and help us watch over and pray over her ...as we await the birth of the miracle she carries within her.
GO PIN UP GO!
