Citaat:So sorry for your loss,
I will be praying for a full recovery for Chevy, her baby was beautiful. Thanks for sharing this with all of us! Words just can't describe how horrible I feel for you and the mama.
Citaat:There is now a special watch thread for Chevy for you to post your observations for Susan to be able to assess her prgress quickly. Please continue to post your well wishes on this thread.

Citaat:You will see some pretty severe cramping and belly kicing and yes that was her water, my husgand is going to refill it, she drank it all and is up eating (GOOD SIGN). All of her afterbirth cleaned the first time she got up. She should not be in severe rolling pain, if you see her like that yes please call as the vet wants to come back out but I think the way he handled it saved us a tear.
Thank you again for your time!!!
Citaat:I do not know where to start. First of all I have always learned a lot form Marestare so I always opt to leave the cam on. Because of Chevy's behavior last night and the time it takes my vet to get here I called him early, it was a gut feeling from God as I have NEVER called a vet out for a foaling!!
Both the vet and I were aware the cam was on the whole time and had thought of it, there was a point when we had to get the rest of the foal out that we needed it cut. For people who have been watching her and saw how she kept going down the last 24 hours..know that was because the foal was breech and anytime she would try to go into labor it was a no go. When the vet got here we did not know that at first. He went up there and said he felt no foal so we stimulated her and as you saw, her water broke and she pushed very hard quite a few times. We then saw no presentation of anything so the vet went back in and we had nothing in the birth canal. It was then he thought we may have a breech. The shots you saw us give were Dormosedan to try to get her not to push so hard as it is almost an impossible job to get those back feet positioned to get out. He gave the first shot and I IV'd the second dose while he was back there. He tried to get the foals back legs with just his hands and then got the chains. He had a way to position them so as not to tear the mare. It took a while but he got both feet out and I was pulling on those ropes with all my might so he would not get kicked!!!
I then tried to help him get the baby out so we both pulled, I believe the cam was cut before then by someone. I gave the cut sign after we had the two back legs out and I knew it was not a live birth that was going to happen at that point..I had a little hope up until then though.
Not knowing that it was an issue I said the cam could be turned back on as so many people wrote and called wanting to see the baby. I think the right choice was to not let that happen as Heather said there is nothing educational in it at that point. I appreciate all the prayers and keep them coming as Chevy has a 50/50 chance of making it. I will probably have the cam turned off as I see no point in anyone watching if something happens to her. God Bless everyone for your prayers and kind words and the Marestare team for knowing what to do. It was very sad to lose my only foal and my last foal by Pizzazzed for this year but when all was said and done, I came into the house to an e-mail the my 2x WC producing daughter is in foal to APHA PM Gold Style..one life lost, another beginning,
Peace to you all, Lloyd & Susan Barta
