Eigenaar op MS over het lang blijven liggen van Edith:
It's funny what you see on camera and what's really happening in the stall... To clarify, after foaling Edith was not having post-foaling contractions at all, she was just trying to get up. She's a very heavily muscled mare, not very athletic, and well, just plain lazy. If you noticed when she was down how her feet stick straight out, she's got a ton of muscles in her hind end which don't allow her to be very flexible. There's also a bit of a low spot in the middle of the stall (dirt floors), so she was pointed uphill which didn't help matters. She finally flipped herself over so she was downhill and with a little encouragement from us, she finally decided to join the party.
She actually hasn't been havng any post-contractions that I can see, so her placenta is still in. The cord broke off short as the baby was pushed out, so there's not much weight there, but we'll work on that & makesure it comes out.
Thanks all for watching, your calls & concerns. Baby still hasn't completely gotten a handle on getting those front legs out in front of her to stand up and the blankets don't help, but hopefully she'll figure it out. If you see her PJ's out of sorts, feel free to call us at any time. Usually the first night they end up getting all twisted around, but we have no problem getting up to fix them.
Will try to have pictures for you soon.
