op marestare speculeren ze over een keizersnede, dat zou toch wel erg zijn, dan wordt het nog gevaarlijker voor die arme confetti

tja, de man aan de telefoon dacht zelf dat het veulen niet meer leefde, maar ook geen idee of er genoeg ruimte is om de andere manier te gebruiken, neem aan van wel als hij er ook met twee armen in kan om pootjes te pakken

bah, we mochten het nog wel over moeilijke bevallingen hebben eerder vanavond..
Ik ga maar slapen, hopelijk morgen alsnog goed nieuws

ellepel, ja de cam staat al lange tijd uit omdat het dus heel erg mis ging allemaal, we zijn ge-update op marestare, als je terugleest zie je wat er allemaal gebeurd is

I'm sure Jessi will read this when she has a chance and get back to everyone on what is going on...she knows you are all pulling for her...and I'm sure she feels good about doing all she could too..when the Vet can't get the foal out and is doing everything you've tried and then has drugs and chains and still not able to get the foal out everything possible was done and now it will be up to the Vets at the horsepital to get the foal out and hopefully Confetti will be just fine!!!

At the horsepital they will most likely try completely knocking her out, then hoist her hind legs up in the air...kinda like hanging a deer up and then they reach down inside to see if they can turn the foal...if they can turn the foal then they let the legs down and then pull the foal out...if not and the foals is not alive it is more likely they will cut the foal out in pieces...I now it sounds gross, but is easier on the mare to not go through a C-Section after all she has already been through..if they believe the foal is alive and viable then they will do a C-Secetion. Hope no one is horrified by that, but that is what is done.

I've also been on a farm with as Vet and he knocked the mare out and used a tractor to hoist the legs up and turn the foal...my old Vet use to always say..."have your tractor ready, just in case." Thank-God never had to do it to one of my own mares...it is easier to help when it is not your mare that you are emotionally involved with!!!

ik heb wel vaak er naar gekeken via marestare,maar al een hele tijd niet meet.

hopelijk gaat dit allemaal nog goedkomen

Ik weet niet of nog iemand het is blijven volgen maar het veulen van Confetti was een hengstje en is overleden.

heb net het hele stuk op marestare zitten lezen, gelukkig alles goed met confetti.
veulen lag ondersteboven met het hoofd terug geslagen, is uiteindelijk op de kliniek er uit gehaald.
brrrrr, ik hoop toch niet dat ik dit zelf een keer moet mee maken, bah bah

I apologize for cutting the cam, but once I knew it wasn't good, I didn't want some people to have to see it. For one, Craig's very young niece was watching. We were out of the stall a lot of the time as well, walking.

I am amazed how many people were reading this thread, and how many posted! You guys are incredibly wonderful. Marestare is the best thing ever! (LOVE YOU HEATHER). My vet was very amazed when I told her about it, and how people here were the ones to tell me my mare was in labor!

Speaking of that, big thank you to those of you who called us to let us know!!! Fetti wasn't ready for this baby, so we weren't keeping a real close eye on her just yet. Time wise she was, but no udder at all, wasn't dropped, ect. I had been gone all day at a competitive trail ride clinic, and was on my way to take my horse back to my trainers (the horse I used is in full training right now). Trainer lives in the same town I do, so thanks to your calls I was able to head straight home instead. Craig was at home, so while I drove home I was on the phone with him. My poor horse speant a lot of time in the trailer today, but she was an angel! No noise at all She's in my round pen until I can take her back to my trainer tomarrow or Monday now

Anyhow, I knew something wasn't right. As I said, Fetti wasn't ready. And she just didn't seeem to be acting right. I paged my vet, because even if the foal did come out ok, there was no milk! My vet was thinking maybe she was just colicking, because of the lack of readiness and not contracting yet. But then she started contracting, so vet said to call her back to keep her updated.

Rather than water breaking, there was a dribble. I knew that wasn't right, and watched closely... as I suspected, red bag. I know in that situation, tear it open and GET BABY OUT!!! But the feet were upside down... that was the point I had Craig repage my vet and cut the cam.

As you know, we took her to the horsepital. 3 vets, 3 techs, and an anesthesiologist. Vets tried to turn baby, couldn't. Sedated her, tried again. As Bridget talked about, they hoisted up her hind end and tried again. They tried, at the vets alone, for 45 mins... not counting all the time I tried and my vet tried here at home! Oh yes, chains on the front legs. Could NOT get the head in position. Tried chains, hooks, no go. Everytime they'd get the head starting into position, either it would go back or the foal would turn. It was odd, the legs were upside down, head was not and it was on top of the legs. For those not familiar with foaling mares, there is hardly any room in there, so the foal MUST come out properly or it will get stuck.

Anyhow, ended up doing a fetotomy, which Bridget talked about. Even after that they had a hard time getting the head out!

He was a small foal, very tiny! which makes it even odder we couldn't get him out properly. Beautiful black leopard colt.

There is a risk that the uterus tore, but they can't tell yet because of her being sedated: the uterus is all flacid. They will find out in the morning when they flush her again. There was also a couple peices of the placenta still inside, so they're hoping that comes out overnight. Oh, to the person who asked, my vet office is about 20 mins away. Vet was out on a call so she was further. Fetti was very good, everyone loves her.

Thank you again everyone. Reading this thread (and yes, I read it all) brought tears to my eyes. Tears because I know there are so many wonderful people out there who care, even though almost all of you never met us in person, many not even online yet! You are all wonderful. I REALLY appreciate it.

Hai, heb hier nog nooit wat gepost, maar gisteren op dit topic gestuit en nu dus mede mare stareder...

Merrie van de Fields Quarter Ranch ligt een beetje onrustig te liggen. Heb niet veel ervaring met bevallende merries, kan verder nog niet echt een bevalling zien, maar kijken er meer mensen mee naar die merrie? Van bokt dan he....

edit: plat liggen, "rechtop" liggen, weer plat liggen, etc...

Inderdaad, ze zien er nu heel rustig uit... Net was de bovenste merrie, terwijl ze lag, dus steeds helemaal plat gaan liggen en dan weer wat overeind komen, om kijken, weer plat liggen... Blijkbaar zat er wat mest dwars...

Afijn, ben nog een mare stare rookie, duidelijk voor niets druk zitten maken...
