To be eligible for registry, a Paint's sire and dam must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association or the Jockey Club (Thoroughbreds). To be eligible for the Regular Registry, the horse must also exhibit a minimum amount of white hair over unpigmented skin within a prescribed zone.
A cropout is an overo whose parents were horses registered with AQHA or the Jockey Club. Cropouts must meet APHA's color requirements to be registered in the Regular Registry. Stallions and mares that do not meet this requirement may be considered for the Breeding Stock Registry; however, geldings and horses already registered with AQHA or the Jockey Club are not allowed in the Breeding Stock Registry. Quarter Horse cropouts may be eligible for registration with both APHA and AQHA and referred to as "double-registered." However, the horse must meet the color requirements of both registries. Two Thoroughbred parents may also produce a cropout foal, but the Jockey Club has no color rule restrictions. Therefore, a foal may be double-registered with APHA and the Jockey Club if it meets APHA's color requirements.
In het Rulebook staat: RG-015. BLOODLINE REQUIREMENT A. Deceased horses are ineligible for registration. B. As of January 1, 1980, all horses for which applications of registration are submitted must have both sire and dam registered in the APHA, APQHA, APSHA, the American Quarter Horse Association, the Jockey Club or any foreign Thoroughbred Registry recognized by the Jockey Club or the combination of any two of these associations. (See Rule RG-035. B. for AQHA and Thoroughbred stallion listing requirements.) A breeder's certificate must be furnished. (See RG-045. for details and exceptions.) Any horses showing the characteristics or distinguishing qualities of any other breed are subject to removal from or rejection of registration in this Association.
