in principe groeien alle paarden en ponies tot ongeveer hun zevende jaar, dat is wat ik tenminste heb begrepen.

Dat klopt niet altijd, sommigen zijn toch echt uitgegroeid op hun 4e en dat is voornamelijk bij de kleinere paardjes, die al snel de juiste proporties hebben.

Tegenwoordig bekijken we per paard of ze al op 3 jarige leeftijd naar de keuring kunnen of dat er nog 1 of 2 jaren gewacht moet worden.

Mijn Trakehner (die dan wel ook een rotjeugd heeft gehad) is nu 7 en ik kan eigenlijk nu pas zeggen dat hij volwassen is.
Hij is sowieso nog lang doorgegroeid, hoewel hij niet groot is geworden.

Denk dat het grotendeels aan het karakter van het paard ligt.
Op lichamelijk niveau zou ik geen conclusies durven trekken, omdat ik zowel koudbloeden als echt volbloeden heb gezien die echt laatbloeiers waren.
Mijn Trakehner heeft een speels karakter en ziet mij echt als zijn moeder.
Hij zal altijd een beetje 'achter de anderen aan' blijven lopen.
Laatste 2 jaren is hij echt geestelijk gegroeid; kan nu pas zeggen dat ik geen 'beebie' meer heb.

Een van mn paarden is engels volbloed (sprinter), gekocht als 4 jarige en nu is ze 8. Ze was en ze is nog steeds 1.57m hoog, niks gegroeid.

Nee, zo zien ze er bij mij als 2,5 jarige nog niet uit, wat een complete dieren zeg.

Over het algemeen zijn ze "alleen" gepusht met hun voeding, maar zijn ze nog niet in training. Sales preparation.

During the 60- to 90-day period leading up to the sales, yearlings feeding program is typically stepped up during this period--often three to four instead of two grain/concentrate meals are fed per day. Most sales yearlings will receive somewhere between 4 and 8kg of concentrate per day. When concentrate feeding is increased, it should be done gradually over a one week period. Full concentrate feeds such as Hygain Studtorque are ideal for preparing yearlings for sale. All that is required is to add roughages such as chaff, hay and pasture.
To a large extent, the amount fed will depend on the horse, individual preference regarding body condition at the time of the sale, the amount of exercise, and the availability of pasture. Studs with a low stocking density and plenty of pasture might feed a little less concentrate to avoid over-conditioning. Individualisation of the feeding program is key. For example, some yearlings can gain weight faster than others so, they may not require as much concentrate. On the other hand, late foals might need to be fed more to achieve the right look. Pasture turnout might need to be limited in those gaining weight very quickly - alternatively, a little more exercise can help burn off any excess weight.
