Actors & Models are considered self employed and are independent contractors. New people are in essence starting their own business. When you are opening a new business, you must invest in that business for it to succeed.
 
With that being said, you are going to need the tools of the trade to work in a professional enviroment, such as photos/portfolio, talent resume and various types of printed material depending on your type (i.e.; actor head shots, comp cards, business cards).  You will also be responsible for the costs directly associated with your internet marketing, promotions, publicity and advertising.  This is all standard to the industry.
 
Do I have to pay for any photo shoots, training, etc.?
Certain service fees do apply when working with certain industry professionals.  We negotiate the best rates for our talent. In addition, it is important that you realize every talent is different as it pertains to what they need to get started.
 
But, I’ve heard that if an agency likes you “they will pay for everything”.
NO. This a common mistaken belief. If an agency advances funds to a model (for photos, accommodations, transportation, etc.), it is a loan. The model will have to pay back this money whether he/she works or not. Models need to be aware and responsible for their expenses. Once a model or actor has developed a proven ability and has a history of continuing income, agencies may look to advance funds, if necessary. At Geoffrey Chapman, we do not advance money to new models or talent.

Na mijn aanmelding op modelmayhem en modelzone veeeeeel berichtjes gehad, werd er niet helemaal wijs van wat nou wel en niet te vertrouwen was. (Oké ik vertrouw vrouwen sneller dan mannen )
Maar gister toch het leukste berichtje gehad: of ik model wil staan voor een nieuwe website die kleding en accessoires verkoopt, tegen een vergoeding! Dus nu voor zaterdag afspraak staan om kennis te maken (met mijn moeder erbij) en wat testfoto's te maken.
Vind het ontzettend spannend, maar ook leuk! Ben heel benieuwd hoe het gaat worden.
