Welk overschot? De Lusitano is het inheemse paard en er worden gewoon niet zoveel andere rassen gefokt of het zijn al Lusitano kruisingen zoals Luso Arabe, Anglo Luso of três sangues (driebloed). Andere rassen worden meestal geïmporteerd voor direct gebruik in de sport en gezien het feit dat sportpaarden meestal merries zijn, speelt fokkerij daarin bijna geen rol.

Een redelijk deel van de paarden vertrekt naar het buitenland.
(En dan heb ik het niet over overschot.)

Breeders of pedigreed animals cull based on many criteria. The first culling criterion should always be health and robustness.
