Het Haflingerpaard

De historie van de Haflinger gaat terug naar het jaar 1874, toen het huidige Haflingerras is gegrondvest. Van voor die tijd is bekend dat in het vroegere Oostenrijks Tirol werd gewerkt met een klein bergpaard. Doortrekkende ruiters hebben Arabisch bloed ingebracht waardoor het ras adellijke kenmerken kreeg. De combinatie van de Arabische hengst El Bedavi XXII met een "Tiroler Landesstute" bracht een hengstveulen voort genaamd Folie 249.

Het staatshengstendepot van Stadl-Paura kocht hem als vierjarige hengst waarvan alle Haflingerpaarden de trotse nakomelingen zijn.

De weelderige witte manen en de witte staart zijn de specifieke kenmerken van de Haflinger die in het begin van deze eeuw als uniforme eigenschap werden bereikt. Vijf stamvaders, Nibbio 1920, Willi 1921, Anselmo 1926, Student 1927 en Massimo 1927, bepalen in hoofdzaak de bloedlijnen van de Haflingerpaarden. In het stamland spreekt men dan ook van de N-lijn, de W-lijn, de A-lijn, de S-lijn, de St-lijn en de M-lijn. Een aantal jaren geleden is hier nog de B-lijn aan toegevoegd.

In 1961 vond de eerste import van Haflingers in Nederland plaats. Sindsdien zijn er veel paarden uit Oostenrijk naar Nederland gehaald. Bovendien kennen we in Nederland een uitgebreide fokkerij van dit ras. De kwaliteit van de Nederlandse paarden kan zich meten met die in het land, waaruit ze destijds zijn geïmporteerd.

Gebruik van het ras

Haflingers hebben bewezen voor veel doeleinden te kunnen worden ingezet. Het zijn niet alleen zeer aantrekkelijke dieren, maar ze zijn ook bereid intens te presteren. Met het genoegen dat men aan de Haflinger beleeft, is het dan ook geen wonder dat het ras zich enorm heeft uitgebreid.

De Haflinger is sterk en harmonisch gebouwd, heeft een vriendelijk karakter, is fraai gelijnd en sterk gespierd en heeft als regel vlotte en correcte bewegingen. Haflingers, van oorsprong afkomstig uit Hafling in Zuid-Tirol (Italië), zijn speciaal gefokt als universele krachtbron door en voor de Oostenrijkse alpenboeren. Het opgewekte karakter, het grote uithoudingsvermogen en de bereidheid tot presteren, zowel aangespannen als onder het zadel, maakt het alom tot een zeer gewaardeerd dier. Deze gunstige eigenschappen gaan gepaard met sobere eisen ten aanzien van voeding en onderhoud.
