Oh, en ik heb het al een tijd geleden geschreven...
Robin Hood
Our Tale and this rhyme,
Begins in England, many years back in time.
There once lived a man so fierce and brave,
That he was blessed for every gift he gave.
This man lived a hard life but fought for good,
As he would save an innocent, wherever he could.
His heart was honest, loving and true,
For he would do anything to save a homeless, a little boy or even you.
Robin Hood plays the hero in my story,
He sought neither fame nor glory.
Come close and listen good,
To the legend of Robin Hood.
The nasty sheriff who ruled in those days, cared nothing about the poor,
Without knocking he came through every door.
He stole their savings and slaughtered their cattle,
And he would even send their children into battle.
All he cared about was money and power,
And those who disagreed, he would lock up in his tower.
His filled the village with terror and pain,
To be the wealthiest man in the country, that was his gain.
All the villagers lived in fear,
Little did the sheriff know that his end was near.
On a bright and sunny day Robin went for a walk,
When he saw a beautiful woman, he decided to go and talk.
Marian she was called, and a maiden so fair,
With clear green eyes and soft brown hair.
He fell in love and promised her his undying devotion,
And soon their love would be stronger than the most powerful love potion.
But a soldier of the sheriff saw the whole thing,
And he told his master to ‘ buy a golden’ ring.
Explanations were given and arrangements were made,
For his information the soldier was well paid.
On a sunny morning the sheriff went for a ride,
With his head up and filled with pride.
Before he knew it a man hanging from a tree,
Stole his wallet for all to see.
“That’s Robin Hood my lord”, a soldier said.
“Well well, said the sheriff, we’ve finally met.”
“Your days of power are soon to be through” Robin said.
The sheriff only laughed and replied: “Just wait until the day I wed.”
Days later Robin thought about what the sheriff meant,
When suddenly a soldier came with a message the sheriff just sent.
The sheriff would make Marian his wife to be,
“That will never happen, not as long as her heart belongs to me!”
He made a plan and together with every mate,
They went out to destroy the man they hate.
The group fought their way inside,
And Robin saw the sheriff, again filled with pride.
Robin gave a signal and his men began to fight,
Marian screamed his name, as the sheriff pulled her out of sight.
He found the room she was in and picked the lock with a knife,
“As long as I live she will never be your wife!”
Eventually, Robin stood face to face with the man he grew to hate,
The sheriff wanted to stab him but he was too late.
Robin grabbed his sword and ran him through,
Saying, “She never would have loved you.”
Robin and Marian finally got wed,
As they were destined to do from the day they first met.
And when the sounds of children’s laughter fill their house,
Marian passionately kisses her spouse.
“You and I were meant to be.”
Then Robin replies,
“Forever…you and me”
And this is where our historical tale ends,
A legend told in rhyme.
And if you want to hear some more,
Then come back tomorrow, and be on time.
