On August 13th, 2013 the daily Danish newspaper BT had an interview with vice chairman Cathrine Engsig from the ME Association, Denmark, about the treatment of severely-ill ME sufferer Karina Hansen, who has now been admitted to Hammel Neuro Center for 6 months against her will. Here is an excerpt:
Association: 24-year-old is being mistreated.
Hammel Neuro Center's treatment of 24-year-old K can have serious consequences for her health, according to patient association.
- Hammel Neurocenter is mistreating the 24-year-old woman, K, who was hospitalized half a year ago and treated against her will. So clear is the message from Cathrine Engsig, vice chairman for the ME Association, Denmark.
- We simply do not understand why she should be treated by psychiatrists when the leading Danish and foreign experts find that she has a physical illness, says Cathrine Engsig.
[Political party] Enhedslisten: 'Functional disorders' must be debated.
The case of forced hospitalization of the 24-year-old woman, K, at Hammel Neuro Center, has echoed at the Parliament, Christiansborg.
MP Stine Brix means that precisely 'functional disorders' should come up for debate among the parliament politicians. - It is worrying that patients who have diagnoses that have been recognized as a physical illness, suddenly are being considered (as having) a mental illness - potentially with unfortunate consequences for the involved citizens, says Stine Brix.
