Yes, there's really 3 horses there! Imagine being a bit late to go feed, break the ice on their water, and check on your horses.
And them not coming, when you call, when they are usually there to greet you. The dark already setting in, having to plow through deep snow, up to your knees in some places.
The snow is not letting much sound through, you only hear the crackling sound of your boots in the snow.
Calling, shaking buckets, looking at big piles of snow, thinking it's the horses, but hoping it isn't,
cause the piles are not moving one bit.
Feeling relief when it's not them, but feeling more scared by the minute, cause where are they then!?
Checking the fences, everything is intact, closed, but still no sign of the horses.
It's getting really dark, and you still have the biggest part of the pasture to plow through to look for them, hoping your headlamp won't die before you find them, hoping that the wolves aren't close, and have nothing to do with the horses not being there.
Finally, there they are, their eyes light up under the light of your headlamp, you start counting as they come walking towards you from the pitch dark.
1 white, 1 black, 1 itti bitti spotted, they're all there, fluffier than ever, warm, healthy, and completely unbothered.
Happily eating their balancer pallets that you still hold in your bucket, like there never was a scary movie being played here before your eyes just now, like your whole world had not been shaken to the core just now.
So happy that we have this huge place all to ourselves now, but my oh my, this was a new experience!
Hoop dat jullie avond wat ontspannener was!
ze hadden eigenlijk eerder gemoeten maar de hoefsmid kwam gewoon de weg niet op met het slechte weer.
. We zullen zien. Niet alles hoef in 1 keer..
