Due to being made aware of a post on Facebook, regarding our lead times, we have decided to put out a statement as we were unable to comment on the post itself and we realise it’s an important issue.
We are a super small company and, as such, we simply cannot compete with all the major boot brands that can produce their boots in a much quicker time frame. This wasn’t even a possibility in 2010, when we sold very few boots, and we are likely to remain the longest for some considerable time yet - possibly always.
Currently during every single fitting (without fail) and on every single communication sent prior to a purchase (including the invoice and accompanying email), we advise clients that whilst we make an estimate of our delivery times - we simply cannot guarantee them and that we are looking at 14 weeks on average (now). Many factors affect the time taken to create beautiful boots from sourcing the leather, and accessories, to the intricacies of the pattern and we are very clear and transparent about all of this. We wish we could make them quicker but, due to the demands in the workshop, we simply can’t make them fast enough and to change the way we make our boots would completely change our uniqueness and this is just not an option, sadly.
Add to this, we make a totally tailored boot and when stripes and layers of different colour leathers are added along with customisation and personalisation, it increases the production time by 75%. As you can see from our social media (both in the UK and in Europe especially), more and more detailing, colours and customisation is being added to our boots as clients embrace the service we can offer and this is the direct cause of the delays in the workshop. We have tried to address this by adding 2 more staff members recently but training master craftsmen is not an easy or fast process.
Due to the frustration that a few clients are currently experiencing whilst waiting for our boots, we are now providing a disclaimer to new clients that explains, in even more detail, the process that our boots go through, which will allow them to consider not to order Celeris boots if the boots are a necessity before a particular date. We do not ever want to knowingly frustrate or upset any of our clients. We are also exceptionally honest about our lead times and would prefer not to take an order than have an unhappy client. We also provide refunds, large discounts off future purchases and free products in almost all instances of a delay of more than 4 weeks as a gesture of goodwill and an apology.
To answer one criticism, we cannot keep track of every order at every stage in the workshop (regardless of how easy they think this might be). To do so would require employing more staff (to just check orders continually) and this is turn would mean the cost of the boots would increase and we just don’t feel the need to do this and it would be a pretty boring job in all honestly.
We work incredibly hard, and passionately, to create beautiful boots for our clients and in a way it’s great to say that the biggest problem we have is the lead times - because in the grand scheme of things this is a great place to be!
We genuinely adore our clients, many of whom are now firm friends and believe this is more than obvious from our social media interactions and the welcome we extend in our studio.
We are a genuine company, who believe in our products, in the people that work tirelessly to create these fabulous boots and in providing a superior experience for those visiting us and putting their faith in our craftsmanship. To see our customer service described as ‘awful’ is soul destroying and we have to remind ourselves of the endless great comments we receive daily. We realise we can’t please all of the people all of the time but we are having a jolly good go at doing so!
To everyone waiting on boots, the workshop are working around the clock to get boots out for Christmas and currently are on track. Where a boot might be delayed beyond the 25th, and was promised before, we will be providing compensation of course.
