Citaat:Vladimir Bologov, zoologist and wolf preservation enthusiast, believes the problem may be exaggerated to look more urgent than it actually is.
“Such position is normal for hunters who want to get extra financing on the pretext of fighting against wolves. Helicopters are expensive; any flying one is a thrill many people want to experience,” he commented for RT.
A wolf pack 400 strong? Tales from the Russian woods.
In reality there are probably several wolf packs killing some ill kept horses.
Outlandish wolf stories have come from Russia for centuries. Recently a book about Russian wolves was put together by Will Graves (Author) and Dr. Valerius Geist (Contributor). Wolves in Russia: Anxiety Through the Ages. Although it is meant to be a serious study of Russian wolves, it is pretty much a collection of more folklore.
Nog een paar feiten over wolven:
"wolves are social predators that live in nuclear families consisting of a mated pair which monopolises food and breeding rights, followed by their biological offspring and, occasionally, adopted subordinates." <--a pack is dominated by a mated pair. A pack of 400 would have to have a leader, fighting to decide, lead by one mated pair.....doesn't make sense. They are wild animals with an established social order. They don't/can't just "join up" into a pack of 400.
"Wolves tend to have difficulty adapting to human induced changes, and are often referred to as an indicator species; a species delineating an ecoregion or indicating an environmental condition such as a disease outbreak, pollution, species competition, or climate change. Wolves do not seem to be able to adapt as readily to expanding civilization the way coyotes do." <--yup, another animal harbinger
"Although wolf packs do cooperate strategically in bringing down prey, they do not do so as frequently or as effectively as lionesses do; unlike lions, wolves rarely remain with their pack for more than two years, thus they have less time to learn how to hunt cooperatively. Contrary to lion prides, food acquisition per wolf decreases with pack size" <---the story said they joined in a large pack for hunting, but that isn't in their nature.

jammergenoeg zijn er nog altijd mensen die maar al te graag wolven afslachten
