In 1916, Russian filmmaker Fedor Ozep was studying at the University of Moscow when his adaptation of Pushkin's Queen of Spades was made into a major film. This led him to become a screenwriter and a director through 1928 when he traveled to Germany to direct a co-production of The Living Corpse. He did not return to Russia and remained in Germany until the rise of the Nazi regime caused him to flee to France. He continued directing films there until he was placed into an internment camp when WWII broke out. He was freed after Paris fell and went to Morocco. After a time, Ozep eventually came to North America where he remained until his death in 1949.
En iedereen maar denken dat mijn Ozep vernoemd is naar zijn opa Zep, het blijkt dus wel dat zijn fokker niet even simpel een 'O'-tje voor Zep heeft geplakt maar wel degelijk behoorlijk research heeft gedaan.
