Ceylonmelange, earl grey of bijvoorbeeld sterrenmix. Succes met het organiseren van je tea.

High Tea is a plentiful meal that combines savory foods and sweet delicacies. Several sources refer to high tea and an afternoon tea interchangeably* but some strongly suggest they are two separate entities.** The afternoon tea is a light snack, tea sandwiches and cookies with tea and high tea is hardier and served closer to evening hours and may include coffee and cocoa.
There are two suggested origins. The first and most popular is that Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford in the 1800s, would have terrible hunger pangs and feel faint between lunch and dinner. One day she asked to have some cakes and small sandwiches brought to her along with some tea – and the afternoon tea was born. The second idea suggests that it is descended from the 17th century eating style of large dinner around 5PM followed by a later small supper. This was an understandable method of eating. After a hard day's work the general worker would be hungry and more than ready to eat. By evening a small meal would be needed to satisfy the hunger pangs.
Nowadays tea is usually served around 4:00 PM, after lunch and before dinner. It has light sandwiches, sweets and of course tea. Our menu is a blend of conventional goodies and some modern treats.
How much should you serve? Allow 3-4 tiny sandwiches per person that will equal one whole regular sandwich. Allow 3-4 small dessert pieces.

This British tradition is a late-afternoon or early evening meal, usually quite substantial. It originated in the 19th century as a simple, early workingman's supper. High TEA can be served buffet-style or set on a table. It includes a variety of dishes such as CORNISH PASTIES (deegflap gevuld met vlees oid), WELSH RABBIT (toast met gesmolten kaasmengsel), SCOTCH WOODCOCK (toast met ansjovis en roereieren) and various other meat and fish dishes. Also included are plenty of buns, CRUMPETS, biscuits and jams, as well as an elaborate array of cakes and pastries and, of course, sTEAming pots of hot TEA.
