Citaat:Foals - orthopaedic problems
(Developmental Orthopaedic Disease, DOD)
There have been numerous reports for some time of remarkable successes achieved with EQUISTRO HAEMOLYTAN 400 in foals and weanlings with postural anomalies, for instance
* general malposition of limbs in newborn foals
* hardened or shortened tendons, foot problems (contracted tendons)
* tumefaction of joints, exostosis
* changes in the cervical spine
Studies made for instance in the US show that such changes may be due to trace element deficiencies, in particular copper deficiency, or to poorly balanced trace element or mineral supplies (Knight et al., 1990; Bridges and Moffit, 1990; Hurtig et al., 1991; Finkler-Schade et al., 1996; Jeffcott and Savage, 1996; Pagan and Jackson, 1996; Davies et al., 1996). Orthopaedic problems tend to occur more frequently under the influence of insufficient copper supply to prenatal foals, of high milk production by mares and the resulting late supplementary feeding by the foal, and of fast weight gain in foals.
