Citaat:I''ve read the article and here are the key points made by Anne:
1. The article was prompted by Anne''s conversation with a noted and respected judge who stated after judging a Grand Prix freestyle class, \"Any judge who proclaims that he or she is able to take in and apprise every nuance of every ride is either a genious or faking it.\"
2. At the 2002 national judges forum that focused on freestyles, some of the judges told Anne about the pressure they felt to take in and process all of the facets of a freestyle and get it properly sorted. Some even admitted to disliking judging freestyles, not because they didn''t like them, but because the system makes them feel at a disadvantage.
3. At the international level, the technical quality of the rides is always improving, so the artistic side of the score sheet is often a \"tie breaker.\"
4. Because of the time, effort, and expense involved in creating a truly uplifting program, it behooves judges to devote attention to the efforts put out.
5. Although the idea of splitting the judging into two categories has been discussed, it died out. She believes the time may be right for trying that system again. The judge Anne was talking to proposed a panel of five regular dressage judges, with three judging the technical aspects and two the artistic aspects. This way each part of the test would get the full attention of judges who understand what they''re looking at and know their jobs.
6. Because of computerized scoring, score sheets are quickly taken from the judges because the next horse is entering. This leave absolutely no time to write closely comments of any kind, particulary on the artistic side.
An artistic judge would have time to do that.
7. Marianne Ludwig, chairman of the USEF Dressage Committee told Anne the issue could be added to the agenda at one of their committee''s future meetings. Anne suggests readers write to the USEF Dressage Committee and let them know your feelings on the issues.
I believe Anne is right on target and I applaud her for bringing the issue forward for discussion. My letter is heading to the USEF Dressage Committee. I encourage you to do the same, whatever your opinion on the issue. I know from my experience that you can influence the dressage community through such actions because we are a small community and a few voices can get things started (or stopped).
