Many of you have wondered why I can read Dutch but don't speak Dutch. We'll, let me explain.
Yes, I was born in Belgium and lived a few years in Krimpen aan den IJssel, Holland. My father and his family are original from there. My daughter was born in Capelle aan den IJssel. I moved to the States a few years back. My daughter never knew how to speak Dutch so she grew up speaking English. I speak English 24/7 and how incridible it may sound, I have lost over 70% of my Dutch. When I'm on the phone with my family it takes me hours to find what I want to say. I guess your brain can only handle so much! (Brain? I have a brain? Verward

)
Anyway, that is why I respond in English because it is so much easier for me. It takes me too long to write what I want to write and by the time I found the word, I already forgot wat I was talking about! So, please accept my appologies for this inconvenience! I hope this explains the WHY?

Ik snap best dat het moelijk is om om te schakelen. Als ik het goed begrijp, kunnen we de antwoorden dus wel gewoon in het Nederlands geven?? Misschien dat als je een tijdje hier komt en veel Nederlands leest, het vanzelf beter gaat. Over het algemeen begrijp ik Engels wel, alleen bepaalde "vaktermen" uit de paardenwereld misschien niet, maar dat zal jij ook wel met Nederlands hebben af en toe.

what do you prefere to read, not very correct english or very good dutch?

but oke, it's good for me to try in English.. maybe it will be better soon when i write it more often.

Ach, na een tijdje bokken kom je er wel weer in hoor!
Als je een taal gekend hebt, leer je hem heel snel opnieuw. Zeker als je hem nog passief kent Lachen

You already explained to us why you prefered to speak english on the western-forum, but it's good for the rest to know too. I can either speak english or dutch, bi-lingual Haha!

But I still don't know what you'd like, would you like us to speak dutch, or english? In other words, would you like to train your dutch, or keep it simple by answering in english?

Het lijkt mij het zinvolste om in het Nederlands te antwoorden. Aangezien ze wel NL begrijpt als het geschreven is (toch?).

Voor een niet engels spreker/lezer (zeker de wat jongere bokkers) kan het behoorlijk irritant zijn. Met reacties in het Engels werk je imo in de hand dat deze groep bokkers topics over gaan slaan omdat het voor hun niet begrijpend geschreven is.

Mijn Engels is trouwens goed mag ik wel zeggen, met een drs. in de Engelse taal- en letterkunst als moeder..... Haha!

Well it's nice for me to practice my english, although I almost write it every evening when I'm playing Unreal Tournament with some friends. It's not hard for me to write and read, and not hard to hear, but harder to speak.. I can speak the language very well but when I want to say something against someone, I always kinda like break down..

But I think it's cool that we have some foreign people on bokt too, it brings a certain kind of education too. Hope you enjoy yourself on bokt. Lachen

Misschien word mijn Engels wat beter als ik het meer lees.Ik kan alleen niet antwoorden in Engels, zo goed kan ik het echt niet...

Het lijkt mij geen probleem.
Natuurlijk zijn er een aantal mensen op bokt die geen Engels kunnen lezen. Voor hen zijn Engelse topics dan ook niks aan.
Maar leest iedereen sowieso elke topic? Ik niet in elk geval.

Engels, Duits, Nederlands, ik heb er geen probleem mee.

Ook antwoorden kan ik best in het Engels, maar net als Buitenzorg (?) al zei, is het voor sommigen prettiger als ze de antwoorden wel gewoon kunnen lezen.

Sorry Hon, but after living in the US for over 15 years, English being my first language, I still am FLUENT in Dutch.

Now, if you find it easier to write in English, go ahead. But dont be surprised when the Dutch dont understand how on earth you lost your birth language so fast. I've seen messages from you in Eng and Dutch, sure it may take a little longer in Dutch, but your Dutch is still fine. Maybe its even good for you to take the trouble to keep up your Dutch, trust me, you never know when you'll need to come back....
