1. MGMT – Electric Feel (3min50)
It was summer vacation. Sun was shining. 3 months of summer holidays – the longest they’d have in their whole lives. They’d use it wisely. Roaming about the country, visiting a festival here and chilling there. But most of all: spend time together. They didn’t know what their first year after high school would bring them. Would they go get a job? Or head off to college? Maybe they wouldn’t see each other that often anymore. Grow apart. Meet different people. But at that moment, all those worries seemed like distant echoes. They were together now; they loved each other here and now and that’s what mattered. They would never forget those three months of sleeping under the stars, keeping each other warm. Of deep and intense love – young, youthful love maybe. But love after all, without a doubt.

2. Bloc Party – Mercury (3min53)
“It’s just not the right time for this, for me, you know?” she muttered.

Of course he didn’t know. None of the things she was saying were making any sense. No one understood what she had gone through. All of the lies that had scarred her for life. He was one fugly bastard for messing up her and her life like that.

And now here she was, with a perfectly decent guy who respected her more than any man had ever done. But the all those memories, all those lies kept her from actually admitting her feelings for him to herself.

She’d tried sleeping with random guys, one-night-stands every night. But that hadn’t helped. So maybe a serious relationship? No, definitely not. Damn you, Derek, she cursed inwardly, I hate you. You ruined my life.

3. Orson – No Tomorrow (2min48)
“Come on, babe. Please?” he pleaded.
“No,” she said grumpily. “I just don’t feel like it.”

He sighed. Why wouldn’t she come? It was supposed to be the night of their lives. The ultimate party. They’d go out and have the time of their lives.

It took him quite some effort, but eventually he managed to persuade her. Quickly she put on some flashy make-up and picked out an ensemble. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her enter the living room, where he’d been waiting for her.

“Wow”, he muttered, flabbergasted, “you look absolutely amazing.”

He grabbed her hand and rushed out of their apartment, impatient to show off with his girl. They’d dance the night away, leave all their sorrows behind. No more money trouble, forget those bills that still aren’t paid yet. Just you and me, dance and shake our booties like there’s no tomorrow.

4. Queen – I Was Born To Love You (4min50)
“Where are we going?” she asked curiously.
“You’ll see” he grinned, a mischievous expression on his face.

They were approaching the mountainside, the one they’d climbed so very often together. Her face lit up when she realized it. “We’re climbing?” she grinned back at him.
“Well, yeah…”

It took them only thirty minutes to get to the top.
“I still can’t believe how beautiful it is up here. Even after all those hundreds of times” she sighed, looking at the view all around her.
“Yeah, it is” he grinned, “but baby, there’s actually something I wanted to talk to you about”, he added seriously.
“Oh, sure” her face turned serious suddenly. “What’s the matter, hun?”

He sunk down on the ground, on one knee. “I feel like I’m born to love you, take care of you. I can still feel it getting stronger every day, even after 5 years. And I want to do it every single day of my life. Baby, will you marry me?”

She was astounded. He waited for her answer impatiently, his eyes hungry.
“Oh babe…” she muttered, “of course!” she screamed off the hilltop.

5.Justice – Waters of Nazareth (live) (6min47)

The dirty bass sound was pumping in her chest, taking over the beating of her heart. The enormous crowd of people – there must have been thousands of them – all danced in unison. It was as if there was nothing apart from this festival tent filled with masses of young people. No world full of despair, war and decay. Only this moment mattered, right here, right now. The music drowned out all the white noise – everyone’s personal white noise. Troubles with parents breaking up, failing school grade or just the urge to pee really badly.

When she looked around her, she only saw happy people. People caught up in the moment of this gig, worshipping the two dark-haired men behind the huge cross, which gave off an eye-blinding light. It was crazy how music was able to unite so many different sorts of people, people who probably wouldn’t even like each other if they were in the same class, for example. The power of unison, she thought while she danced like a maniac. Yes, that was exactly what it was. And that’s why she loved music so much. It made everyone’s life a little more bearable.

6. Paramore – Here We Go Again (3min46)

“Oh jeez, here we go again,” I muttered, rolling my eyes. He went into a rant about how I’d forgotten to do that particular thing on that particular day. I’d gotten tired of these stupid fights about the little things. Why couldn’t he just let it go? Forget about it. Move on. Everyone forgot something sometime. That’s what made us all human.

But in the end, that was the final drop. Those little discussions just were too much for me to handle. It was as if I never could do anything right. Even if I tried my best, it wasn’t good enough for him. And as we made love late at night, I knew that stupid little something was wandering in the back of his had, haunting him like a ghost. He never really could let stuff go. And I got tired of it.

In a way, it made the whole thing a lot easier. “Can’t say I’m sad to see you go,” were my last words to him, before I shut the door on him. I was relieved. This was something I should have done a lot earlier.

7. Placebo – Protège-moi (3min15)
She was my best friend. I truly trusted her. I breathed heavily as I recovered from crying for almost an hour non-stop.

“God, I’m a mess,” I muttered to myself as I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror opposite to the couch where we were seated.

“No you don’t, you’re just going through a rough time,” she soothed. I sighed. She was truly way too good a friend for me.

“I’m sorry to burden you with all of this, I didn’t mean to…” I confessed.

“You know I don’t care. You’re my friend and I’ll take care of you.” She smiled as she looked down at me.

I curled up in her lap.

“Please protect me from what I want” I whispered.

8. Madina Lake – House Of Cards (3min43)

It was dark already. She looked at her alarm clock: 11 pm.
She sighed. She probably should get some sleep, but knew she couldn’t possibly imagine sleeping right now.

Maybe I’ll take some pills, she considered inside her head. Yeah, that’s a good idea. And tomorrow I’ll start all over. Be myself again. Yes, that sounds alright. A fresh new start. Exactly what I need.

She crossed the landing, entering the bathroom. She paused a second to listen for the deep, calm breathing emerging from her parents’ bedroom. Yes, they were asleep. She could go her way.

Opening the mirrored cabinet above the sink, she caught a glance of herself. “Jeez, you’re a mess” she reproached herself.
After a minute or two of rummaging, she finally found what she was looking for. The little bottle of very strong sleeping pills her psychiatrist had prescribed her. As she emptied the still completely full container into her mouth, swallowing with difficulty, she briefly considered whether this was in fact the right solution.

Yes. A new start. Tomorrow. Bright and early. Those were her last thoughts before she sunk onto the ground of the bathroom, her breathing stopping almost instantly.

9. The Used – Taste Of Ink (3min29)
He stepped on the stage, causing an enormous uproar. People started cheering, yelling, chanting his band’s name.

He grinned to himself. This was exactly what he’d been waiting for. As he ripped into the intro of his favorite song, he felt the adrenaline pumping through his veins. He’d been waiting so long for this.

Determined to play the best set in the history of rock concerts, he ran around the stage like a maniac, jumped into the crowd and had the time of his life. He savored the moment carefully, making sure he would never forget this evening.

Who’s a loser now, eh?, he thought. He put up his middle finger, every single person in the crowd following his example. To them it was just a gesture their ultimate idol was making, to him it was a big “fiets you” gesture to every single person in his stupid little town who’d told him he would never make it.

fiets you.

10. Lostprophets – We Still Kill The Old Way (4min21)

I know I have changed a lot over the past year. We went to different universities, didn’t see each other as often as we used to. But I know you changed too, even though you always were the one who was hanging onto the old times.

But you see, in reality I haven’t changed that much. I’m still the dorky 14-year-old girl with the two ponytails. The one who never had any friends in the playground. The girl you, of all people, chose to be friends with. Your best friend.

Maybe I met some new people, gotten a lot of new friends. Maybe now I am the popular one, while your circle of friends still mainly consists of people from high school – and not many of them. So yes, we may have switched roles. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m your best friend. That’ll never change.

Heel tof idee!

Maar goed, da's part of the challenge :D

Dankje, Flo! :D
